October 19, 2010
I sat down to write about my latest “day ride”, but I’m gonna climb on my soapbox first—I’m really pissed off about something.
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine (I’ll call him “Jim”, ‘cuz, well, that’s his name) was hit while riding his Ultra Classic. He was headed down I-5 in Tacoma on a rainy Saturday afternoon, when a car that was travelling WAY too fast sideswiped a Gold Wing riding with him, then rear-ended Jim’s bike. Luckily, Jim was moving at about 30 miles per hour, which absorbed some of the impact and kept him from getting hurt. Jim’s bike, he later discovered, was a total loss due to frame damage. The driver (I’ll call him “Shithead”, ‘cuz that’s what he is) spoke almost no English (don’t get me started), had no driver’s license, no registration for the car he was operating, and of course, no insurance.
The State Patrol showed up, and in the interest of justice and fair play, gave Shithead a ticket. Yeah, a ticket. The patrolman who so ably wrote said ticket told Jim that nothing would ever come from it; Shithead would never show up in court or pay the ticket, and the warrant that would be issued when Shithead didn't show up for court or pay the ticket would pretty much be useless. So this fucking idiot gets a free pass after destroying two bikes.
As if that didn’t piss me (or you) off enough, I asked a local officer what would happen, hypothetically of course, if I had been driving the car that did exactly what Shithead’s did. I would have been arrested, possibly given a field sobriety test, given tickets for the numerous offenses, and my car would have been impounded. Yet, the State Patrol gave Shithead a ticket.
Are you pissed off too?
